A peek at how I get my vitamin c(reativity)
Easy Things I’ve Done For My Creative Health Lately is a peek at how I get my vitamin c(reativity) throughout the week to strengthen my creative brain 🧠💪🏼🎨.
When I think of the word creativity, my mind defaults to “art” or “artist.” Specifically, a painter or someone who draws. I am neither of those. My drawings are of the genre “stick figure” 😂
That’s why I shied away from exploring my own creativity until recently. That, and creativity isn’t exactly seen as a worthwhile way to spend our time in our too fast, too furious world.
I’ve come to learn that creativity is actually an innate human trait that directly impacts our mental, emotional and physical health. So many of us are experiencing creative deficiency and because of that, we’re more susceptible to stress, anxiety, and exhaustion.
Thanks to
I’m learning so much more about the importance of creative health and my relationship to creativity. I’ve started to practice being creative, just as I would building any other type of habit. Here are all the easy things I’ve done for my creative health lately — no talent or artistry required 😉

Easy things I’ve done for my creative health lately
Play with Legos: One of the perks of having a niece and nephew is that I’ve been able to play Legos, which reminds me of being a kid. This weekend as my niece was building a castle, I asked if I could build her a garden. I gathered all of the flowers, leaves, and butterfly pieces we have and built a mini garden. It was so fun and I actually lost track of time! The end result was kinda cool??!
This particular activity made explore what kind of adult lego kits I might want to try. I’ve now got my eye on this Van Gogh lego set! Even though part of me is trying to rationalize why I should not get a lego set (“How old are you???”), there’s another part of me that wants to get it just because it sounds fun! That’s the voice I’m trying to listen to more often.
Play Uno: For Easter, I got my niece Uno (Moana version 🌺) and now we play it every time she comes over. This morning I brought it with us to breakfast and I noticed that I just enjoyed playing. I didn’t care who won (or if I won!) — it was just nice to play and connect with each other. (Playing games also requires problem solving and strategizing, which are also elements of creativity!)
Try a new recipe: Last week my mom and I went to one of our favorite local bakeries, Moulin. Even though it’s a French bakery, my mom loves to get their chocolate chip cookie (it’s SO good!). I immediately went home after our recent visit and searched for a similar recipe. I found one from
and made it right away. I loved that the recipe required new-to-me techniques and a little experimentation with one of the ingredients. The cookies turned at *amazing* and now we can make our favorite cookie at home. (I’ve aptly named our creation ‘Le Cookie’.)Flower arranging: As you know, I’ve been having fun with flower arranging. Each time I do it I learn something new — technique, artistry, and the individual personality of each stem. I recently made a bouquet using a single type of flower: ranunculus. I loved watching them bloom throughout the week and (as always) am in awe of what happens naturally in nature!
Do a puzzle: I recently learned (via human design) that my mind doesn’t actually prefer mindfulness techniques like meditation (!). Instead, my mind needs something to gently distract it or focus on. That must be why I love doing puzzles! Normally I would listen to a podcast while doing a puzzle (2 birds, 1 stone, etc.) but I’m experimenting with doing ONE thing at a time. It’s hard, but I notice I feel a lot calmer during and after.
Watch a documentary: This week I watched Avicii - I’m Tim, a documentary on Netflix. Although I knew of Avicii by way of his music, I didn’t know about his life, journey, or struggles. I’ve taken much of his story to heart and it has continued to stick with me days later.
I’m learning that creativity isn’t about being an “artist.” These little moments — playing, baking, building, arranging — remind me that creativity is how we stay present. How we stay human!
The more I follow what feels fun, the more I notice how rich my days are. I love looking back on my week now and smiling at these moments that I’ve made space for 😊
What’s something easy you could do this week that inspires play, curiosity, or spontaneity?
Wow!!! We feel so honored - and can't wait to follow along on your creative health journey :) This is so beautiful!
